I think the writer makes some good points.
And i have some easy solutions.

(1) I was thinking about this, and realize the most apparent and outrageous cost to go to college is, of course, book costs.
First off, why are we chopping down trees to make college books when we live in a digital world where close to no one does not have access to a computer? USE E-BOOKS!!!! It saves trees and back ache.
If there are necessary reasons to stick to paperbooks, then that's okay. But why are the books so damn expensive? And why are they replaced by new editions every quarter?!?
(2) Tuition is through the roof! But my friend can come to class with me for free?!?
I notice, if I want to, I can sit in and enjoy a nice lecture on astrophysics with a buddy. I could even go to every class with him. FOR FREE!!! I just won't get a grade at the end of the quarter. So, it's obvious that the education isn't what's valuable.
The value is within the prestigous school's name on my degree. Why would a grade letter be more valuable than the information I've gathered? I mean, as long as my friend Well, the answer is most likely because "businesses" look at the school I've attended and the degree I've obtained. "AH YES" Business...
(3) Illegal alien and other education grants offered at no cost- really!?! To tell you the truth, I believe those costs are carried over to the rest of the tuitions paid by the non-qualifying individuals. These programs are disasters in disguise.
Anyway, that's all I have for now. Maybe you fine FC individuals may know a bit more about this stuff. So help me out here! Let's get the reformation going!!!
Now for some of my thoughts on this.
A lot of essays and things could be very easily emailed to teachers or profs.
School's care about what happens to the environment, schools even teach along those lines, so why not look for new ways to make things better, they may not cut cost, but they could help cut paper waste and save a tree.
I would think it is better in many ways to email work, as you have a record and copies and read-receipts with no trees being killed.
I would think it would be faster and more convenient.
Yet most schools, colleges, and university's don't do this, is it because you pay for printing out papers in school?
I would suggest that if the prof complains of getting too many email, then have a separate account for student's work.
Or have the students buy a box of floppies at the start of the year, then they can put there work on them and drop it in a box by the instructors door.
After it is read and graded and copied, it can be returned to the student, for them to use again.
Saves a lot of trees.
I know people that have started using use a small white boards for studying, they cost about $18.00, and they use it when they have something that they need to learn, that may involve a lot of repetition.
For example learning a figure or a table. Rather than wasts lots of paper, they write it on the small white or black board, then they check with the book to see how they did. Then they erase it and do it once again, over and over until they get it right.
With the result being, no dead trees!
School's and school unions care about what happens to the environment, they even teach along those lines.
So why not put these simple things in place?
And i don't think students should be grading other students work!
They pay to have a teacher look at there work and to grade it, not another student.
