Ont. considering paying donors for liver, kidneys

TORONTO -- Ontario is considering becoming the next province to pay people to donate a kidney or part of their liver.
Health Minister George Smitherman says Ontario is looking to British Columbia for ideas after that province decided to pay patients up to $5,500 to be a live donor. Smitherman says the majority of people on Ontario's waiting list for organs need livers and kidneys - both of which can be donated by living patients.
He says Ontario is leaning toward increasing the number of live donors rather convincing people to donate their organs when they die.
Opposition critic Bob Runciman says it doesn't make sense to pay people for organ donations when Ontario could simply make it easier to bequeath their organs.
He says the province should require people to fill out an organ donor card when they renew their drivers licences.

..... Personally unless it's a relative or very close friend , the meager up to $5,500 just won't cut it ... Lost of time off work , and pain and suffering .. call me cruel , insensitive , whatever but I'm keeping my parts for family and friends until death ...
