When a person is arrested and put in prison do we need to look at how they are treated, and perhaps, do every thing in our power to ensure they can do there time with out be beaten or raped by other prisoners?
Do we take someone that has screwed up and make them worse, and more dangerous?
The crimes we don’t allow in society, are these same thing allowed in prison or ignored or even encouraged as a form of punishment?
The crimes we don’t allow in society are these same things allowed in prison or ignored, things like Gangs (banned on the outside), Harassment, violence, rape, intimidation, and God knows how many more.
If these things are not allowed outside, then are we enforcing the same rules of respect in prisons?
I have talked to people that have gone to prison and they have told me about daily beatings by other prisoners, and worse.
Or that have had guards turn a blind eye to these things as a form of punishment.
The guards would probably say there is nothing they can do.
Well, what if the police said that on the outside.
I believe that if they, the police, suspect that a woman has been hit or beaten they can arrest the man, even if the woman refuses to say anything.
It should be like this on the inside.
If there is reason to suspect that someone is being shook down, raped or beaten or bullied by other prisoners then, the guards have a responsibility to act and investigate, and press charges, even if the prisoner refuses to speak out of fear.
Why have one set of rules for the out side and another for the inside?
Isn’t this confusing for the prisoners and sending a bad message?
Any one done any time in here?
