McGuinty orders up new holiday for Ontario

Ontario Premier McGuinty got down to business after winning a second majority government by giving the province a new day off.
"Today I am pleased to announce that Ontario's first ever Family Day will be celebrated on the third Monday (beginning) this February," he said Thursday in Ottawa.

The statutory holiday will give Ontario residents more time to be their families, McGuinty said.

Ontario will now have nine long weekends per year, putting it on par with Saskatchewan, B.C., Alberta and the Territories.

And who is going to pay for this holiday The estimated cost is close to 1 BILLION $ !!

Re Alberta, If I remember correctly this holiday was optional. I know the company I worked for elected to skip a holiday in Feb and take it on another day.

What is really anal is that Mcsquinty thinks he needs to tell us we need more time for our families !! Who is this guy GOD

Of course when 43% percent of the people in the province were too flicking lazy to vote I guess we deserve the government we got.

But things cannot be all bad afterall this is one election promise he did not break.

Mark my words,, better bend over now because in the next 4 years we are going to get it up the a$$ so many times from these guys that there will be no time to stand up straight!!

Another paid day off in Feb, what's not to like but the old taxes will go up to pay for it. We can't win but why do we keep trying to ??

....for the ones that DON'T get Heritage Day off now , this so-called " Family Day " is ours ... but I can see any unions in contract negotiations will have trouble keeping heritage day as a paid day off .... CAW will have there hands full !!!!

I will forgo an automatic attack on McSquinty, perhaps because I liked his photo-op on the school lunches.......However.....

Paid holidays are payroll costs which result in no ggods or services......no production...none...nada. Another employer expense right now when so much production is currently being outsourced abroad is not an economy builder.

Especially when the same ideology is so @#$%^&* eager to form policy on a science fiction movie.

The hell with the holidays......shovel on the coal......
