... Well it looks like there are no cottagers out there , to bad because it's worth the drive . I'm lucky in the sense that I usually go up on a Monday and come home on Fridays and miss the rush .. It's peaceful and quite during the week and the wildlife returns to visit . We have deer in the backyard that you can feed and they seem to enjoy the flowers since nothing grows past the bloom stage .. lol.. the one will even mooch toast on the deck in the morning ( loves peanut butter ), and swim with the kids .. the bear stays it distance , thank goodness cause it stinks . and the otter can be seen early morning or at dusk snooping around at the beach .
... The lake is calmer during the week and fishing seems to be better .. It nice to be able to kayak with-out the worry of some jet-skier speeding by ..
.. I enjoy looking at all the little shops in town and be able to find a parking place ... Hmmmm the Chocolate Shoppe is a must .
... In the winter there is still plenty to do and just as pretty ...
..so that's some of my cottage life and of course many more to come

What else do you and your husband do at the cottage ? I have never had a cottage or access to one so its a bit of a mystery to me.

...hey Meg , if you don't mind giving up some of the luxuries like the corner store or the mall down the street , or the traffic and noise ... then you'll love cottage life ..
.. it's usually quite and peaceful .. where I go.. you get the motor boats and can hear the lawnmowers but at night ... hardly nothing , the loons soulful cry , a fish jumping on the surface after bugs and sun-sets and stars that can take your breath away . In August the skies light-up with the Northern Lites and all there colors that seem to dance and swirl across the heavens .
.. bring a book or two , some crafts and just do nothing but relax ..I could sit at the waters end all day , watching kids swim,fish or behind the boats on tubes ..
..don't miss getting up early , I mean at dawn .. cup of coffee on the dock , still in pj's and just listening the lake come alive .. the mist is still heavy on the lake and as the sun rises so does the mist to reveal and mirror finish .. a single boat with his little 10hp putt-putt motor slowly crossing the waters looking for the "big one" .. the ducks and geese swooping in for breakfast and the loons dipping and diving after fish .
..there's chipmunks galore that are very entertaining , chasing each other over the few peanuts you have threw to them , and the red-squirrels that chatter their heads off at you because you forgot them .. ha ha
... have fun with them , tie a peanut to your fishing pole line ( no- hook ) cast it out and reel it in .. they fight better than a bass for that peanut , and you have alot of laughs .. btw ... the chippys are rewarded well for their entertainment ..
... if this sounds like something you would like to try , plenty of cottages are rented out , the good ones are booked years in advance to the same people over and over but just check the papers .. there expensive , but if you get another couple or friends to share the costs there not bad ..
... as for my hubby , he passed a few years back .. so the kids and I go with my girlfriend and Her family , to their cottage ..
... cottages are a little cheaper in the fall , and the colors of the trees are indescribable , yellows, reds , silvers , oranges mixed with the conifers are breathtaking

... One night there was 6 between the two yards . they started coming in around 10:00 pm as we where still outside . They gave us a sniff and went and laid down ... it's nice knowing that they have bedded down in your backyard

Nice to have your furry friends bedding out in your back yard. This is always a nice experience. Just hope you can protect them from the macho fall hunters who are bent on destroying all the living things out there.

At my summer place I constantly have to listen to these people as they salivate over the fall "HUNT". They even justify it by telling each other what great damage these terrible animals cause to the local property.

I am not an anit gun person and I understand that hunting is a sport like golf or hand ball I just think it is anal and destructive.!!

Finally as is usual for nitpickers you did not answer my question. Are you an aboriginal ?? I ask this because they are the only ones who have the RITE to hunt and then only on their own lands ( farmers are probably the other exception but most I know only shoot to get rid of pests).

As for the rest of us, hunting is not a RITE. It is a privilege given to those who show they are responsible enough to participate in the SPORT and with enough money to purchase the required licences.

The best time to go to cottage country is the fall. If you go to the right place, there's hardly anybody there but locals and fellow hunters/fishers. It's nice to have that sense of community.

Very quiet, you can hear geese and ducks (followed by gunshot) taking off. I'm looking forward to it.

...truthy , truthy , truthy , my dear .... you do not get a tan with BenG*y .. that is needed after tubing ...
..Well had a GRrrrrrEAT time , plenty of sunshine though 1 night was a little chilly .. saw amazing view of the meteor shower from the deck .. the deer came on a daily visit and the chippys cleaned us out of peanuts .. The kids enjoyed there daily showers in the lake and are well tanned .. fishing was exhausting and the littlest child caught the biggest 1 .. a 2' pike on a barb-less hook and worm . go figure eh ... scared the crap out of her and I thought the pole was going airborne when she saw what she had caught ... but she hung on , reeled , and was able to hold on till we could net it .. pics where taken and the fish released for another time ..
.. Had a beautiful day at Algonquin Park and did a 5k trail .. it was rated difficult and took us 4 hours to do , thought I was going to die !!!! the climb up to lookout point was brutal but once there and your body stopped screaming " you fool " the view took your breath away ..again .. you could see for miles .... going down was much easier because they had constructed steps and look-out platforms ... the kids counted the steps and lost count when we hit the 800 mark ... needless to say that night was a" early to bed night "
.. I defended my " bragging rights " to not have been thrown off the tube , came close , but managed to hang on ... getting to old for that sh*t and paid for it the next day ...Ouch ...
... We kayak , sea-doed and canoed everyday and I even tried trolling in a kayak with some success ...lol
... every-one had a great and safe holiday , and are looking for Thanksgiving when we all meet again as a group ...
... some are planning on going up in September because the leaves are showing signs of changing early .. and I'm one that loves the fall colors...
