If there was anything ever responsible for federal deficits in troubled economic times is the fact that when Canada had 29,000,000 people there was under 200,000 federal civil servants and federal crown corporation employees. With almost 33,000,000 people in Canada there is now almost 500,000 federal civil servants and federal crown corporation employees. The corellation is unmistakeable. The civil services and crown corporation staffing levels doubled without a corresponding doubling of Canada's poopulation. Who pays for all this empire building and civil service and related bloat? The other 90% of Canadians paying rediculous taxes for. Can you imagine what these national deficits for, they are to pay for the shortfalls for all this fantastic bloat. And they, who are the recipients of these deficit budges just plain do not care!
People, now you really know what the GST is really for and in this case the pork is stiff like the rocksalt its cured with.

Some more things to ponder.
*Have any Canadians since we saw the increase from 29 million to nearly 33 million see any increase in quantity or quality in government services to the public?
*Since the advent of computer technologies that were supposed to bring about speed and quality of service, have Canadians seen anything change to reflect what has been spent on technologies?
*Has there been any increase of citizen's cases going to the Supreme Court or has the present lopsided cases of corporate cases going to the Supreme Court become way more prolific since?
*Have citizens in Canada noticed that the term "citizens" has been sidelined to where citizens are know being called "clients" by the various government services to the public?
*On the corporate welfare front, has everyone noticed that from the GST take the governments have continued to see fit to give corporations massive tax cuts whereas with all the public issues affecting people has seen nothing! Nada! So how can the present GST even be justified to begin with?
*At one time there was a ratio of citizen portion of government revenue that was on par with the corporate portion, has everyone noticed the fact that now the public is paying for everything where the corporate sector is paying little and its getting smaller still and still good paying jobs in this country are disappearing and re-appearing in foreign countries selling the goods and services to Canada essentially beggering this country?
Wake up Canadians! This is plain to me and I am no major economist but I do see through the rose colored glasses our governments monacle us with.

NOW HERE"S MY BEEF !!!! due to the economic rollercoster we're on , Toyota is playing smart and only running 1 line ... there short 1000 employees at present time ..... THEREFORE they should be paying TAXES !!!! We have just received our tax-assessment's and guess what ..... THEY ARE GOING UP MEGA !!!!!!!!

Perception is reality to the beholder.....
My concern with civil servants at any level/application is that they project an attitude not that of servants but that of masters....Referring to them as civil servants makes as much sense as military and intelligence in the same breath. It seems to me a conflict of terms...an oxymoron........... Notice how any sign of curbing the bloated civil service (even by attrition) incites a protest. I subscribe to Bob Harris dictum----the purpose of government is to deliver services and not to provide employment.

Saskquatch:
The prevailing attitude of the civil services is that they are one level closer to gawd than thee! That they have an entitlement from all the rest of us to take care of us in some remarkable way that is meaningful to your life! If there was ever a group of people who walked forward with their heads twisted 180 degrees to the rear they are it.
One horrible thing was done in studies back when Canada had 29 million people here fully out of a quarter million coast to coast federal civil service some 30% of the civil service was doing nothing tangible to keep them employed for the good of the Canadian people as a whole. Now with 33 million people and over a doubling in the civil service can you imagine how many people shouldn't be there?
The biggest civil service growth was basically in one space, Ottawa and district and basically nothing has changed benefitting Canadians. The only things that have happened is that the tax basis have been shifted away from corporations and almost wholly on the backs of individual Canadians where government and their corrupted interests are giving your tax dollar to corporations as a benefit to them for employing you in the first place!
Ah! Government and Corporate Welfare in Canada! Isn't it just great! So are we really any that much different from the USA or Puttin's Russia? ;D
