Every time the news media takes hold and exploits anything you can best be sure it might be good for some one but the rest of the locally affected Canadians?
Just recently it has come up that retired NDP MP Bill Blaikie is now seeking nomination, some call it a parachuting now too, to become a Manitoba provincial NDP MLA in the now vacant Winnipeg Elmwood constituency vacated by Jim Maloway who was parachuted in to become the federal MP for the long held NDP Constituency of EK Transcona! That Bill Blaikie was courted and given some kind of nod by present Premier Gary Doer who might not seek a 4th term as Premier with looking to Bill Blaikie as being his some day replacement as party leader for the Manitoba NDP.
It is no secret that this whole exercise of parachuting some one favoured into a another constituency is spoiling it for two other hard working candidates seeing their first time nomination and possible election in the very constituency where they live and work as opposed to Blaikie who still lives in Transcona but works downtown at the University of Winnipeg a job given to him where ultra-Liberal Llyod Axworthy reigns supreme. These same candidates as Blaikie were also tireless workers and supporters for Blaikie when he was an MP are on the glum side now and wondering where this is all going?
There is speculation that Doer's NDP government is now on the greener side of experienced MLAs and an elder statesman like Bill Blaikie is what is needed to give a different look to the Doer NDP Government that other than staying its course has been otherwise lacklustre and the kings and queens of government for show, window dressing and so attached at the hip looking to Winnipeg's Jewish community that the NDP as a government for all the people can not do anything for any other Canadian citizen in Manitoba without asking or engaging Manitoba's Jewish community first! Doer's achillies heel has self identified and that could be his biggest motivation for giving the nod to Bill Blaikie. Whether this is correct an assumption will ultimately be tied to Premier Gary Doer's exit from politics lands him and then all Manitoban's will know for sure just the special interests he tied he and his NDP party to by what the payoff is or will be.
So far for just like the provincial Filmon PCs before them the Manitoba NDP has been on the cusp of the most right wing, neofacist and racist prone behaviours for certain racial interests ever seen. A lot of people have seen it and turned a blind eye. Will that blindness remain when Gary Doer leaves or will it confirm what people have not been wanting to admit for a very very long time while many a Manitoban got screwed watching it happen for a long long time now, that some citizens have rights but certain citizens have rights not accorded to the rest of the citizens and wrongfully so.
As for Bill Blaikie, readers can read his file but you can best believe there are skeletons in his closet that in this nomination and election process even he does not want to come out. It is time the rest of Manitobans knew those too as there is a dark side to the man in how he has treated other Manitobans dispicably that he needs to fess up to and admit to as well.
