Winnipeg Free Press amongst other media outlets headlines - A Grim Milestone - 100 Deaths - Endless Heartache - It is because of them that we have this wonderful country - It is their gift to us - Canada reaches a grim milestone of 100 deaths - Soldiers' families remember the reasons they went to war.
All of this from out medias is supposed to instill in Canadians some kind of nationalist pride and one of purpose in the world stage, a stage that has not really changed much in the last 5,000 years of recorded history. If this was to instill pride in me in Canada and the sacrafices some Canadians made to do that I am having problems with the entire concept. Being the son of parent who were not Jewish who survived the Nazi concentration and slave labour camps of Europe during WWII only to find that even in Canada nothing had changed and the only determination the war really made was what side the winner was on otherwise neo-facism and totaltarianism had not only shifted but was strategically embraced by the west to conteract the totaltarianism brought in by the Soviet Union is the real tragedy we face today. To compound it all the international bankers who financed profitted from all sides then never really stopped in between times and are doing it all over again now and we are seeing that financial warfare all over the world so just what does that all come to mean? It means our children are being used for cannon fodder all over again and because of all this misplaced sacrafice the media has the gaul to say "It is because of them that we have this wonderful country" and this country of Canada is somewhere about 15th in terms of abusing its own citizens and that is its level in terms of enforcing human rights in Canada amongst other nations of the earth! Question really should be why we are not crowding the first place positions with some other democratic nations but no here we are in number 15th position almost tied to that of the USA.
Why am I so outraged at this situation? Canada has always been a peacekeeper in recent times and here we are hurling millions of dollars in armaments to kill people who worry about where their next meal is going to come from subsisting in farming where the only hardy cash crop they can produce in their proverty is poppies for producing opiom so they can make a living then can just exist from and little else within a religion that is re-interpeted by extremists making it all incompatible with so-called western enlightenment. Where has each bullet gotten anyone there in terms of making a better life for them. We are dealing with a country at war with itself and other countries for centuries so what have or what could we have to change how they live? What a misdirected waste to lives and resources! Instead of lives, food, roofs over heads, religious tolerance through slow progress we give them armaments, bullets and deah! Just another continuation of loosing more people adding to the 2 million Afgans that died when the Russians thought they could take over and change the place and somehow we can do the same as the Russians did using the same bombs and bullets but in a new point in history? Where is our support for their lives and their development as a self sustaining country and society? Why are we trying to measure their ancient problems they have not come to grips with slowly with our measures where ultimately now end up shooting and bombing them into what all the while we have our own human rights and poverty problems right at home in this rich country of Canada there is no effort on the part of this country to come to grips with!
Add to this I had the horror of my neighbours daughter with 2 young children loose her husband to Canada's fighting in Afganistan that pays the family off to live confortably here with devasted children who will not see their Dad ever again and parents, grandparents left to grieve into their graves over a dear love lost in two countries, Canada and Afganistan who are both too screwed up to figure just how all that registers to the families it devasted in both places as ours are not the only dead but there are those our soldiers made dead too and for what? Our country is old enough and mature enough to know that our military system should have accomodation and change that should be made when our children become soldiers, that cahnges again when those children who became soldiers also became married and then again when those married soldiers had children of their own. There should exist a system in this country for single active duty to active duty married to active duty home guard for the married with children where no choices exist once children enter the scene because those children need parents, the both of them more than Canada or the military needs them for active duty cannon fodder delivering death and destruction worth millions of dollars of profits to defence contractors. End of story.
How does this deal with the Afgan situation? It does not settle it as its settlement ultimately is with the Afgan people. We do not want their problems, tribalism and warfare over here. What we should be involved in his foreign aid to assist them in surviving in the own land and prospering from trade as along with prosperity generally comes enlightenment and tolerance. By the same token to keep their problems over there we selectively wall out troublemakers who wish to bring their garbage over here as immigrants and that we do have excellent processes and services to bring in as prospective Canadians those that we do want because we have an expectation that they wish to come and live here by Canadian standards. Where out standards are broken and many are Canadians should get down and fix them as that is the only way. Right now we are little more than a flaming hypocracy in need of repair. It is best we fix our own problems here before we send our children and wrongfully so to fix the same problems in some other country when we have to fix those problems in our own country first.
I feel sorry for our military and the deaths our children have endured and even passed out to others in other lands. Bring them home and let us clean up our own acts here to provide what we used to do again when this country was that of peacemakers. In peacemaking there is progress for all of societies where ever they are found.
