www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28683246/?GT1=43001This crew was cool and did a super job of ditcing in the Hudson---smooth---airliners have a nasty habit of breaking up----and kudo's to the "river-men" who reacted so smoothly----everybody out alive. Engine failures due to "bird-strikes" are becoming more frequent-----increased bird populations and quieter engines are cited..... This reminds me of a notable Canadian invention----the "dead-chicken gun" developed by the National Research Counsel to evaluate resistance to bird strikes-----it was a gun which literally fired dead chickens..... This device allowed designing/testing windshields etc to withstand bird strikes....... NASA borrowed one while they were developing the Space Shuttle-----the directions failed to mention that the dead chickens not be frozen..........
