DYSFUNCTIONAL LEADERSIPS EVERYWHERE IN CANADA

Frequently in Winnipeg we have writers who write from their professional standpoint like Lawyers, Doctors, Social Workers, Advocates, Consultants, Human Resources Specialists, Psychologists, Newsies and yes even of all things Politicians. Many have important things to say that are informative, neutral and even quite biased.
This weekend it was a Human Resources Specialist, Barbara Bowes writing in the right wing, Jewish media owned, stilted and slanted Winnipeg Free Press so I am very surprised even seeing what she wrote because of the perspectie message her article gave that I agree with on a professional level as it touches the very things that make me feel there are some around unafraid to call it the way they see it and she does just that here.
Her article for the Careers and Job Opportunities section deals with Dysfunctional Leaders, Bad Traits Permeate Organization(s). It is a piece that deals with the pyschologies involved in organizations that spoil things for everyone and indeed spoil organizations generally. Barbara points out specifically what leadership traits from the top down in any size of organizations bring them into disrepute and bring them down and she makes he case in terms of order of importance from management from the top down where each makes a difference on their own but with one even missing the same thing results, rot and that rot runs from top to bottom without skipping a beat.
*Disdain for employees, even one, poisons the environment where a lack of self respect and disrespect for others breeds disrespect eventually right through any organization.
*Slave mentality, where employees are seen as in servatude breeds disrespect from those from the top down that hold that mentality from the top down.
*Autocratic leadership that reserves its tunnel vision leadership for itself where they see no one else matters so no one else cares, again disrespect from top to bottom.
*Control freak, where micro-management with annal attentiveness and delivery soon wreaks havoc because no one that knows better and can participate are alienated by those that thing they all know better and want that message delivered from top to bottom no matter the issues or the consequences.
*Orgre critic, where management does not lead but does always criticize everything that most time do not have a clue to teach or even to lead.
*Leadership Ignorance, where management can not see, is blind, has blinders on, has tunnel vision to only few ways of doing things that frequently fail causing always huge turnovers of dissatisfied employees.
*Do nothing men and women, whose goal is to do as little as possible and consider nothing at all while collecting a paycheck a complete success. If reading a pocketbook without interuption or decision gets remuneration and benefits they will do it and if there is something to be done they will con people to do it for them and take the credit for having done it themselves and no one else. Put them on the spot they are the ultimate to pile the blame on anyone else handy otherwise they are colorless, odorless, blameless and not there all the time.
*Tripping over the walk, they might walk the walk but they do not talk the talk. They say one thing constantly and do the other constantly. They never know what values are to be applied at any time and frequently use the practice of the ends justify the means.
Where do people find these bad traits in abundance? The worst at military and para-military easily seen in dictatorships, benevolent dictatorships (Government of Canada, Provincial Governments, Police Forces, Pension Funds, Government Interests agencies to name a few). For Profit Corporations, Not For Profit Government Funded organizations and even charities so if one gets the ideas that the problems are widespread is to accept a truism that is very real. How do you spot them is to see what issues become public (internal scandals opened up becoming public, sex harassment cases, unionizations, bankruptcies, court cases, deaths, murders, suicides, excutives and employees in large numbers jumping ship etc.) and what spin they are given by the media who manipulates for those who have the most to loose because political scores may be there to be settle and at time the most to gain because there is money even in bankruptcy and criminal and public corruption.
The message here is pay attention to these big factors and know how to deal with them from your perspective for in that you generate your own successes without having to deal with others failures that would otherwise drag you down and for that matter drag your business, city, towm, country or province down.
