MAYOR, SAM KATZ TOO EXPENSIVE A DISH FOR CITY FOLK

Mayor Sam Katz is just about ready to give his 2009 State of the City (Winnipeg) Report or Message. Even though elected by Mom, Pop, brother Jack and sister Jill voters Katz is not giving a free public forum on his stewardship of the city! No, Katz is giving it through the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce at high hundreds of dollars a plate dinner for the business community and their associates (other government and the such like affiliates) no other plain taxpayer-voter in Winnipeg could afford. To wrap himself in the flag of populism and being a least bit of looking centerist but defintely not leftist of course the right wing Chamber of Commerce is giving a part of the proceeds to core area Winnipeg charities who would otherwise not see the money from any kind of free event by the mayor in bringing his message to the ordinary voters where he just might encounter less civility and perhaps thrown cabbages and tomatoes in recognition of the tax break he got earlier for his business interests owning the Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball club!
So what theme is Mayor Katz trying to peddle in this his next foot in mouth message given his last one diminished the role of the Mayor and City Council in favour of the Chief of Police being the most important civic position of 2008 for 2009? Why would Mayor Katz possibly want to closet himself away from the public and possible tossed cabbages and tomatoes in favour of the friendly right wing Chamber of Commerce and a dinner plate costing hundreds of dollars a plate to announce?
It is apparently that the 11 year Tax Freeze on Winnipeg Property Taxes might come to an end! One of the first rationalizations for that was that the City pension fund for present and future retirees was only just almost 5 billion dollars and that premiums given a bad financial market would have to double to cover off what? There are about 10,00o civic employees as a feeder to so many retirements projected, so many retirees to support and deaths that slow down or stop disbursements. So what is the real actuarial picture ratepayers-citizens should know that they don`t now know that they are footing the bill for where disclosure is that last thing this city administration wants to do and there is a secrecy pact involved here not to divulge what is really going on in civic finance that will have to be removed to be fully disclosed.
It does not take a rocket scientist or accountant to see that Winnipeg's accounting methods are made to withhold true information from the voters who would like to inspect and analyse them. That the taxation is a sham with most residential taxes too high or too low taking in only 200 million dollars a year and are so out of wack that something must be being subsidized secretly. How does all the business only contribute 56 million dollars in tax base revenue with billions of economic activity going on right out of the pocekts of Winnipeggers?
Does the citizenry know or see just how little access to information at city hall or even at the website exists to really basically probe not just what is taken in yearly in taxation, what has been accumulated, where the city makes its other revenues and where all that goes? It is all to bamboozle resonable Winnipeggers who really want to know what they are paying for and where it is in terms of their stake and ownership of the city because in essence the ratepayer/voters are shareholders in Winnipeg the corporation.
This whole situation stinks so bad with over taxation of those at the bottom ordinary home owner taxpayer some 90% of the population and such severe undertaxation of those at the very top 10% of the city that millions in tax evation are leaving this city secretted where those doing it do not want anyone else to know. Successive Mayors (other than Glenn Murray who was targetted for his open ***ness by the Winnipeg Police and certain counsellors) beholden to their election financiers made it their business not to inform voters and now here is the next result of the same kind of emassary for the same financial interests in election financing, Mayor Sam Katz doing it all over again in front of the select crowd that financed his last election.
There is no reason for this city to take off the tax freeze. There is every reason that a comprehensive financial audit be done to completely expose city finances to its stakeholders the electorate. This will not ever get off the ground under Mayor Katz, he needs to be defeated and removed, but it can happen when a New Reformist Anti-Corruption City Council led by a Reformist Mayor who knows government in all facets takes power, just we can do for the electorate with the New Mayor and Council are voted in just under 2 years from now.
I am that dynamic candidate and the present Mayor and civic administration are already concerned to the point that some dirty anti-democratic measures are already in gear to prevent such an election with such changes happening. One change already a political sore spot given that the Crystal Taman killing by a off duty police officer who partied all night and the police coverup that followed exposed the gross corruption in the police force, is the removal of the Winnipeg Police Service where corruption and second teer police work is the norm as opposed to the exception in favour of the RCMP the Canadian first teer national police force to combat crime at all levels in Winnipeg not now going on.
Since City Council is so opposed to a Police Commission where elected officials and councillors sit to take responsibility over the police there is no alternative but to go with the RCMP where there is a Public Complaints Commission that actually works where Doer`s NDP Government`s idea called LERA is a made in Manitoba that simply does not work and again the Crystal Taman death and inquiry proved that to be the rule than the exception all over again as the Taman`s suffered the loss but got blamed as the victims with the wife and mother dead in this all over again. If this change can work for East St. Paul where the mainly former Winnipeg City Police officers were also identified as part of the problem, were disbanded and RCMP installed it proves that on a larger scale the same can be done with the Winnipeg Police Service to get rid of the corruption and install the RCMP to bring real change and criminal law adherance for all levels of Winnipeg Society except for the only ones now being protected at the expense of everyone else, the right wing elites backing Mayor Katz.
Smell the coffee and make the changes Winnipeggers. Right now most are being screwed and fleeced and the present leadership thinks we should like it is something taxpayers and citizens should not question in favour of BS baffling brains!
