Well it seems that bear encounters in Southern Ontario are picking up in frequency. In April, Police dispatched a bear in north London. A guy got mauled by a bear near Orillia.... Since a sighting near Stratroy... And a bear raided an apiary(bee yard-honey) near Exeter. Now bear tracks have been confirmed by MNR 2-3 miles east of Innerkip and near Drumbo..... MNR have been advising keeping garbage inside and degressing outdoor grills/BBQs. I suspect this now makes Southern Ontario "an area where dangerous wildlife is present"..... The Canadian Firearms Law makes exception to the safe storage regs in such areas. That is firearms may be kept close at hand unsecured---unloaded with unsecured ammo close by. Just don't shoot them in the head----unless you have an anti-tank gun.

Sand bags? A few nights back...warm and windy...I got a whiff of Bear....The dog with an attitude hid behind the chair and the old dog went tar-paper---I thought she was gonna pop a gasket. Me.....I just swung a bright light about.....with my .303 ready....no eyes....no joy....

A fella recently told me a yarn.....which I didn't question but was dubious about.... The other guy had been reporting sightings of a cougar to the ministry. The ministry was telling him he was seeing things. Finally when the critter was apparently stalking his livestock he popped it and buried the carcass......quietly. Then the ministry guys arrive dig up the thing and fined him for shooting an endangered critter. The critter was "chipped." Now I can believe a collar being tracked by satellite but not a chip. The narrative was that bears, cougars and wolverines were being transplanted as a means to control coyotes, racoons.... That's the scuttlebut....... Last summer I did sight a critter, with witnesses.....that could have been a wolverine.....it moved about like a ferret....the size of a dog....arched back...distance 300m. However I find it difficult to accept a wolverine present without vast depredations to chicken houses etc.
