Believe this or not , but all I know is what happened .. ..A few years ago , my friends were moving into this old stone house . After they were settled , we heard their 3 year old daughter talking up a storm in her room .. She was sitting cross-legged on the bed with a book she could not read yet , but new the whole story .. When asked who was she reading to , she replied Agnes . Knowing kids have imaginary friends or pets , we asked who Agnes is . She replied she's the lady that lives here and she was nice and watches me sleep .. Well if that didn't send a shutter through us ......... She helps me read .. listen ... and she began to read again .. ..Turns out , with a bit of digging the records that Agnes and her Husband Alec lived most of their lives there as farmers . They never had any children but many would stop by to visit .. ... so to this day , even though she's not present as often in the eyes of a child she called upon to find missing items . Agnes is very good at that .. They seem to just turn up .. and as the girl matures she stills talks to Agnes from time to time ..

Hi Gopher,
I am from Ottawa Haunting and Paranormal Group and the instance that you recounted is rare but not uncommon. It happens to children because they are more sensitive to the spiritual presences.
When we are children, we are like sponges soaking everything and anything in. Our brains are wired to take in all information that the senses perceive. As we get older, the brain learns to block what it interprets as "useless information" from the sense, or information that it doesn't understand.
Children who have "imaginary" friends and who are discouraged to keep them, usually end up maintaining this "sensitivity" to spirits, and like the little one in your story continue to see their friend as well as others.

G'day,
I was just reading what i wrote and noticed a big mistake.
my last paragraph in my last message read: "Children who have "imaginary" friends and who are discouraged to keep them, usually end up maintaining this "sensitivity" to spirits, and like the little one in your story continue to see their friend as well as others."
It should have read: "Children who have "imaginary" friends and who are not discouraged to keep them, usually end up maintaining this "sensitivity" to spirits, and like the little one in your story continue to see their friend as well as others. "
The spell check missed this. My missing word "Not" really makes me sound like a loon. My apologies for confusing anyone who read this.

Scharett1, I would agree 100% with your assessment of Gopher's haunting story. It is a fact that we are more sensitive to ghosts and the paranormal in our childhood and teenyears than we are as adults.....but.......I am a ufologist and paranormalist too. What if one had 2 or 3 "spirits" inside them that manifest themselves by talking in one's head with themselves and it was not a person being delusional, if it was that person being totally sane!?!
I am also a genealogist, I have traced my family all the way from 1761 in Canada, Nova Scotia to be precise......all the way back to 6th Century Ireland. Believe me I have the proof that would make your hair stand straight up........all because I believe that I have an 6th Century spirit inside my mind as well as an 15th Century spirit in my mind that "guided" my genealogy knowledge, I feel I have had them since I was 12yrs old in a foggy field playing with a cardboard plane and the 15th Century "ghost" attempted to make contact with me. Every once in a while I will get headaches and these "spirits" will communicate with me....in the head.

I have a friend that can comunicate to the " spirts / ghosts " whatever you wish to call them .. when she comes to visit or just chit-chat , she always sees something .. my grandmother , mother watching over me .. .. I never ask until she says something about them , then I may ask what are they wearing and she can nail-it to a tee . Now since she had never met my mother or grandmother how would she know There are a few pictures around the house , but never has she mentioned those clothes .. neat eh !! ..

Completely neat Gopher, this friend of yours is indeed in contact with the spirits that reside in your house. It must be comforting to know that your grandmother was very devoted to you and your family. Your grandmother still around in spirit in the house that she liked with you around to ahhh keep her company so to speak.
My father died 3 yrs ago, it was very bad for the family loosing him, he died of a heart attack. We never knew how ill he really was. One night after he had been dead for almost 2 years, he tried to come to me.....in our living room. At the time I had been battling with a "dream demon" if you want to call it that, a friend in the USA had been nearly taken over by this demon.....a friend of a Succubus. The Succubus had sent me and another friend terrible dreams, one night I was nearly strangled in my sleep....no bruises of course in the morning but the dying was very real. I fought the demon that the Succubus had sent with my own spiritual powers. Any way, when my father appeared it was completely dark in the living room; he did not appear in ghost form......I just sensed his presense, he wanted to hold me in his arms.....but I did not go to him. It was just as good that way.....yet I had that encounter and am a better person for it, yes the guilt was very real but I can deal with that.

...OK ... need to know if this happens to any one else .
It happens at night , while driving along a street with the overhead street lights on . Your cruising along and just as you pass under a street light it goes out .. You look in your rear view and it's the only one out , all the rest are still on . This happens on a regular bases .
..can anyone shed some light on the situation ... * sorry for the pun *

[glow=red,2,300]History of Halloween[/glow]
Traditionally, what we know as Halloween, celebrated October 31st, originated from the word βAll Hallows Evening.β On this day, first celebrated in Ireland and Great Britain, was a Celtic harvest festival called Samahain marking the end of summer. (pronounced sow-in) The Harvest was said to be the beginning of the dark cold winter months -- a time of year often associated with death.
As tradition to the festival it was believed that on October 31st, the souls of the deceased in that past year would return to possess the still living. If those who returned from the dead were unable to possess the living, then they would have no chance at after life. In order for the living to avoid possession, they would dress up in ghoulish costumes, turn out their lights in their homes and reek havoc in their neighborhoods to scare the spirits away.
Although, it is unclear, it is said that the popular tradition of trick-or-treating also began in Ireland. Many years ago Irish farmers would go from house to house, begging for food. For those who gave these farmers food, they would be promised good luck and others would be threatened. The farmers simply stated βYou treat me or I will tick you!β
Over time these customs changed. These traditions were carried over to North America from Irish and Scottish Immigrants in the nineteenth century.
