Not much action around here. Does it get busy once the snow falls ?? .... just had to say it , didn't you !!!! ... well we have had our first snow fall AND it is still snowing . As pretty as it looks , big flakes just gently falling .... it's to soon !!! We do not need to be scraping snow off our vehicles in Nov. So with that said " I NEED A DRINK , PREFERBABLY ~ HOT~ .. and a spot in the recliner next to the fire . Anybody find a cheap winter get-a-way yet ? And yes , I have my winter tires on . |

...well my Christmas shopping is almost done ... yee-haw ... way ahead of schedule .. just have my Christmas baking to do , with the girls . That usually involves a whole day , trading recipes , a few drinks , sampling the goodies , more drinks , an a huge mess. but it is worth it . It's a day of alot of fun , laughs and being with people that are your true friends. It has become a tradition and greatly looked forward to . By the way the spouses don't mind either cause they get to sample and have all the not-so perfect ones .. Calorie counting goes out the window on this day !!
... just have to dig out all the decorations , check my lights and prepare to create some Christmas magic .

..... well the weather outside is frightful , but the fire is warm and delightful... ( oh sorry singing here ) ... we have a storm happening here , snowing , blowing , down-right miserable ... a good day to snuggle up in front of the fire , a warm drink , friends and chat the night away ... by the way I have ordered some wings , nachos and a veggie platter ... so come on in and sit a spell till the weather blows over .
Petey has learned a new Christmas carol , The 12 Days of Christmas , not the right words though ( o.k. who was it !!!! ) .
The huge Christmas Tree is absolutely gorgeous standing in the corner . Decorated with silver balls , red bows , popcorn strings , hand craved wooden ornaments , ginger-bread men and soft twinkling lights . A thank-you for all that helped decorate . The huge pine bow with the red ribbon mounted on the stone work is a nice touch . The pine cones and silver balls in the baskets are also festive.
As I sit in here, warm and look out over the lake , a grove of pines to my left catches my eye. The deer have nestled there for shelter , and seem content to stay . The Chick-a-Dee's and the Nut-Hatch are the only birds at the feeder and the odd rabbit track on the ground . So as I take a drink of Rum'n'EggNog and look out at the beauty of this , tomorrow will be a day of alot of shoveling .

... well a-shovelling-I-must-go ... .. it's beautiful outside .. It is so white , clean .The sun is shinning and reflecting off the snow so much I had to put my shades on .  The snow is light and powdery , so this isn't bad at all . Tends to blow back at you in your face if thrown in the wrong direction though !!  The deer have gone for now , but I should put out some food for them . As I shovel off the deck , the Chick-a-Dee's keep reminding that they need more food, with thier song . There are fresh bunny tracks this morning as they were checking for seeds on the deck . .The trees are laden with snow , every branch covered . As the sun melts the snow , clumps of snow fall from the branches creating mini avalanches . Icicles are forming from the eaves and add to the crystal effect . The geese can be seen in the middle , as the lake is slowly becoming smaller and the sound of snowmoblies can be heard . |

Snow,Snow,Snow....Ummmm I took a look back home it is 78 degrees today, nice fishing and going to the beach day. But I also can play in the snow I guess.. I know you say welcome to Canada...I got to go shopping for winter cloths. Ok out to push the drive...

..... well whats everybody been up to? Vacations to the sunny south , skiing or just hibernating ...
... I have had such a mix of weather , from snow storms , rain , high winds { which blew over a big pine tree on my front lawn }warm digit sunshine , and cold arctic blasts .... what's that saying " Don't like the weather , wait a day !! " .... just would like some happy medium .. Augh !!!
... So the " Den " is busy decorating for the big Valentines " Sweetheart " night . Has every registered for the grand prize draw ? The get-away trip looks great , especially the hot-tub ..
The 5-course menu has my mouth drooling , and with only a few tables left , they should go quick .

The " Den " is booked full ,( sorry no room at the Den ). Decorations are all up and it is looking very romantic . The food has arrived despite the weather and preparations are under way . Should be a lovely time for everyone . Still time to buy that special someone a gift , and remember you can't go wrong with jewellery .. ( * hint hint * ) although chocolate is always yummy !
Petey will be caged up for the night ( don't want Him soiling anywhere ) and Bob has some special Valentine drinks up His sleeve that He says " involves whip-cream and cherries " Mmmm sounds tasty ..
Hope everyone has a great time and Happy Valentines Day ..

...Well Valentines Day evening went off without a hitch . Lots of kisses and hugs being handed out and long loving eye gaszing was had . Winners of the trip where some neighbour's down the road , who never had a honeymoon some 42 years ago when they where married . That was nice they won and are looking forward to it ... so the Den is back in order awaiting to be splashed with green for the St Patrick's Day bash !
... Although being cold , we have had no snow to speak of . The sun shining on the snow and reflecting off looks like a bunch diamonds . Should be a clear night for the Lunar Eclipse tonight... for any star buffs ... happening in Southern Ont around 10 pm ..

.... Well with the first long weekend that officially kicks off summer under our belts , I have to say weather wise it sucked !!! .. cold , wet , windy .. not very pleasant at all . Winter coats were brought back out , rain boots instead of winter boots were a good thing though . Cottage country had " frost " warnings , but I swore we had snow flurries while bundled up watching the May 24 parade , that was great despite the weather . .... My daughter is in Baniff for the summer working at the Fairmount Hotel as a chef . She loves it , but has concluded that tourists are stu-pid! They had to post a sign that read " No riding of the wild Elk allowed " . Evidently someone decided to hop on one and they tore off across the golf course turfing it .. He fell off and bumped his head and then wanted to be compensated for his injuries DUH !! |

... well I'm back . The old puter finially crashed so now I have a nice new shiney laptop .. What a pain reloading everything . .. so here we are again , another long weekend and rain everyday ... AUGH!! Just get a campfire going with the intent of cooking pie-irons , roasting marshmellows and having a few drinks and mother nature dumps on us Grrrrrrrrrrr.. So what has everyone been up to ? Any holiday plans ? |

.... hopefully ....... summer will continue for a while .. ..Just returned from up Huntsville way , and of course .... RAIN.... water levels are up at least 2 feet , that's a good thing . Forests are wet and damp , so there are some pretty funky fungi growing . Found some lemon yellow ones that smell like peppermint they were neat , rusty red ,orange , snow-white ones with lacy edges , and transparent ones that looked like ice-cubes but where slimy to touch, some looked like coral , and the neatest ones were the "Corps" Mushrooms . These were trans-parent stocks about 6" high and had beautiful bell-shape tops , that drooped over . They grew in a mound of usually 6 or more . They were very prominent this year because of all the damp weather . The bad thing ..... they stunk like something rotting ! Algonquin Park is still as beautiful as always , with her wild-life as nosy as ever ... her lakes and stream cool and clear and the towering White Pines over-looking everything ... If you ever get the chance to take " White Pines Trail " do it . It's a bit of a climb and not that easy in spots but well worth the climb .....amasing view .... and HUGE pines many over 150 years old and when you look up at them you just about fall over.... ha ha ...and just for the record , no, I did not .... Dorset Tower is still a work-out for the legs and turns them to jelly . Thought it was just my old legs , but when the kids started to complain I felt better. Also went to the oldest General Store in Ontario " Robinson's General Store " in Dorset . Has everything from " soup-to-nuts" literally . Cramped little isles , that you can browse along . Old wooden floors , and beams and the wood stove in the corner .. Can even buy horse-shoes if you need to .. lol Then after a tirering day you can always reward yourself with a treat from Karwartha Dairy Ice-cream ... just what to have.. from over 70 flavours to choose from ..... one is not enough !!!!! ...... So what has every-one else been doing |
